Chemical Sciences or Chemistry is one of the foundation experimental physical sciences. The unit’s objectives are to inculcate in the students the basic knowledge in the fields of specialization in Chemical Sciences vis-à-vis: Industrial Chemistry with focus on areas of contemporary interest in the modern world.

These direct the students toward scientific and technological advancement of the nation by adapting the principles of Chemistry to meeting challenges and aspirations of today’s world.

Currently, the undergraduate academic programmes in the unit are structured into the following options:

  1. Sc. Industrial Chemistry

Sufficient provisions are made to allow students to choose elective courses within and outside the College of Natural and Applied Sciences.

Compulsory courses are offered in those subjects areas considered inevitable for in-depth grasp of Chemistry.

The objectives of the unit include:

  1. Developing and impacting academic and professional skills in all aspects of Chemical Sciences for the upliftment of the inherent thinking faculty of individual student.
  2. Providing and promoting needed basic practical exposure and sound and adaptable theoretical knowledge in Chemical Sciences toward technological emancipation of the country.
  3. Identifying the scientific and technological needs and aspirations in the fields of Chemical Sciences.
  4. Exposing students to Students’ Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) thereby giving them insights into inter-marriage between academic and industries and preparing students for self-employment and self-reliance.
  5. Preparing students for higher degree programme in Chemistry-related disciplines.
  6. Offering service courses in Chemistry-inclined areas to other Departments in the University.
