The Physical and Earth Sciences programme has been designed to provide the students with a general knowledge of the basis of Physics, Electronics, Applied Geology, and Applied Geophysics with insights into the specialized areas of physical sciences.  The unit offers four degree programmes in Physics, Electronics, Applied Geology and Applied Geophysics all of which have been programmed to prepare the students for research, industrial and administrative positions to meet the National and International needs.

(i)    B.Sc. Applied Geology
(ii)    B.Sc. Applied Geophysics

In consonance with the cardinal objectives of the University to produce technology oriented manpower for knowledge of the earth sciences as in the conventional Universities.  In addition students are equipped with the techniques and skills required for scientific research all of which are necessary for national socio-economic development and improvement of quality of life of citizens.  At the end of their training, the students shall be qualified to practice in a professional capacity as physical scientist.

The objectives of the programme are;
(i)    to impact in the students, the fundamentals of the main branches of Physics, Electronics and Earth Sciences.
(ii)    to provide them with opportunity for integrating theoretical Physics, Electronics, Applied Geology, and Applied Geophysics with practical in all branches of Physical Sciences.
(iii)    to expose the students to all aspects of applied Physics and Geology since qua non to the development of solid state Electronics and Energy.
(iv)    to equip the students with capability for research.

(i)    Admission into the first year (100) level of the programme is through JAMB.  To be eligible for admission, candidates are expected to take and pass the U.M.E. examination.  They must have, in addition, a minimum of ‘O’ level Credit in five subjects at a maximum of two sittings.
(ii)    Students may be admitted into second year (200 level) of the programme through direct entry if they have good National diploma certificate from recognized Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in relevant subjects.  A minimum of Upper Credit at OND level is required, along with the ‘O’ level requirements for U.M.E. admission.
(iii)    JAMB, U.M.E. subjects:  English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics or Biology.

The Physical and Earth Science programmes are primarily designed for four academic sessions for candidates who enter the University through the U.M.E.  However, direct entry candidates are permitted to spend three academic sessions in the programme, the first two sessions of the programme are devoted to taking courses in basic sciences, of the remaining three sessions during which attention is focused on the core and specialized courses, three months each will be spent on industrial attachment and training (SIWES) during the long vacation of second and third years.
